PROFILE PUSAT KAJIAN SISTEM BUDAYA DAN TEKNOLOGI LOKAL INDONESIAN RESOURCE CENTRE FOR INDIGENOUS KNOWLEDGE UPT. INRIK - UNIVERSITAS PADJADJARAN
In 1992, A university-based institution, that so called INRIK
(Indonesian Resource Centre for Indigenous Knowledge), was established
in Padjadjaran University. This institution conduct programme activities
to promote Indigenous knowledge.
INRIK has links with global networks of professionals and institutions
engaged in indigenous activities.
The first activity after the conference was started by conducting a four
years research on the interaction of Kasepuhan community and the
surrounding forest in the slope of Mount Halimun Area, West Java. The
research aims to document, study, and develop various interaction models
of the Kasepuhan community.
AIMS
The major aim of the centre is to obtain a clear understanding of
indigenous knowledge and Natural Resource Management as a basis for
developing appropriate models for rural development strategies in
order to improve existing practices, or at the very least, to
prevent the further degradation of resource management systems in
Indonesian. This could be expected to contribute the effort to
realize, on a long sustainable basis, the national goal of
development.
Programme Areas
At present the principal programme areas of the centre are in the
field of indigenous medical and indigenous agricultural systems. For
this purpose, the centre conducts professional programmes of short
courses, seminars, workshops, and conferences. The principal of
these programmes is to create a forum and network for the exchange
of scientific, technical and policy related information in the field
of Development.
Activities
One of the first activities was: the inauguration of the centre,
simultaneously with an International Congress on “Indigenous
Knowledge Systems and Natural Resource Management in Indonesian” in
November 1992 at Padjadjaran University, Bandung. The established of
the centre is a follow up project of the on going Padjadjaran/Leiden
University Cooperation programme formalized on December 15,1987.
In addition, the visiting scientist programme will seek support from
a number of international and national agencies, such as the
Netherlands Centre for International Research Cooperation (CIRC)
Specific Objectives
To study, record, and document indigenous knowledge in particular
areas, concerning with health care, agriculture, and natural
resource management,
To evaluate the existing traditional management practice and
strategies,
To make indigenous knowledge available for the development
professionals and scientist,
To design appropriate rural development planning models and natural
resource management strategies which are QW adjustable to
sociocultural environmental changes.
